What is Dicamba?
Dicamba is an herbicide that is manufactured by Monsanto and BASF, a German chemical company. In the United States, the herbicide Roundup that contains the primary chemical "glyphosate" has been used to the point that weeds are now resistant. Dicamba was developed and used by the agriculture industry to kill these "super weeds" that now affect more than two thirds of the 61 million United States farming acres.
Dicamba Drift
Dicamba was designed to be used by farmers on genetically modified plants to be resistant to the herbicide. Dicamba is problematic when spraying as it is known to drift to other fields and damage other crops in the surrounding area where the plants are not genetically modified. Because of Dicamba was prone to drift to other crops, Dicamba was not approved for on crop use until end of 2016 when a new formula could be developed. The manufacturer developed the new formulas that would be less likely and prone to drift to surrounding crops. As a result, the older forumila of the herbicide when used, drifted onto crops not genetically modified to resist Dicamba and damaged hundreds of thousands of acres. This has resulted in devastating losses for the agricuiture farming community.
